Dungannon native urges switch to gas as the “best source of energy”

Dungannon native Sean Óg Kennedy is among many residents in the Mid Ulster area making the move away from traditional oil and solid fuel heating systems to more sustainable alternatives such as gas.
Sean Óg set out to find the “best source of energy” when he decided to upgrade his home heating last year.
“I wanted to make the switch to gas as I knew it was available within the Dungannon area and it seemed like a convenient, cleaner way to heat my house,” he said.
When Sean Óg got in touch with Evolve to find out more about switching, he was pleased to learn that the benefits were not just environmental.
“I find that gas is much easier to use, a more modern and efficient way to heat my home.
“The biggest benefit of switching to gas is how easy it is to manage and the convenience it brings. I can control it from my phone so I can set the temperature for me coming home from work. Or, if I'm working from home, it's easy for me to control from my office.”
Sean Óg was also pleased with how straightforward the connection process was.
“One word that I would use to describe dealing with Evolve is easy.” he remarked.
“The process of installing gas was quicker and easier than I expected. The team were in and out in less than a day and they were very neat, tidy and straightforward throughout. The guys were very helpful and friendly, and I was able to use the gas straight away.”
The convenience and hassle-free installation are just some of the reasons why Sean Óg is encouraging other residents in Dungannon, Cookstown and other towns in the west of Northern Ireland to convert to gas.
“I would definitely recommend switching to gas,” he said. “It's created more space inside and outside of my property. I also find it much easier to control than my previous heating system, and there's no fear of running out like I used to with oil.”
Evolve continues to expand its gas network in Dungannon, as well as across the west of Northern Ireland. Since going live in 2020, the network recently celebrated passing the 5,000-connection mark, while also facilitating the first-ever direct-to-grid injection of biomethane on the island of Ireland. It is a combination that reflects Evolve’s dual focus on present day connections whilst playing a leading role in the longer-term energy transition for Northern Ireland.
