Enniskillen encouraged to ‘go for the gas’

When Enniskillen native Thomas Downey upgraded his home’s heating system, he set out to choose the cleanest and most efficient source of energy.
Thomas saw that gas was being made available in his area by distribution operator Evolve and quickly decided “to go for the gas” after growing tired of their oil system.
“We found oil wasn’t working for us, the system wasn’t very good. There was never hot water when we wanted it - gas has solved that with the instant hot water” he said.
“Everything you need is there instantaneously, or as and when required. It's really suitable for modern living.”
As well as improved timing and better water pressure, Thomas also enjoys being able to control his home heating remotely.
“I would recommend gas for the convenience” he said.
“We can now use the app to set the heating. If we're coming in early, we can switch it on remotely and have the house warmed up for when we get here.”
Thomas was also pleasantly surprised with how straightforward the connection process was.
“Getting the gas installed was much easier than I thought or expected. They came, did their job, and we went off to work. When we came back it was done, and everything was tidied up. You never really noticed.”
Demand for gas continues to increase as households in areas traditionally reliant on oil and solid fuels seek to transition to more sustainable energy alternatives. Evolve continues to expand its gas network in Enniskillen, as well as across the west of Northern Ireland.
Since going live in 2020, the network recently celebrated passing the 5,000 connection mark, while also facilitating the first-ever direct-to-grid injection of biomethane on the island of Ireland. It is a combination that reflects Evolve’s dual focus on present day connections whilst playing a leading role in the longer-term energy transition for Northern Ireland.
