Strabane-based cooking oil company Frylite is celebrating its 30th anniversary by connecting its headquarters to the new mains gas network which is now operating in the town.
Frylite is recognised as the market leader in the supply of fresh oils in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as in the collection and recycling of waste oils.
Eamon McCay, Managing Director and company founder, welcomed the opportunity to connect to one of the biggest infrastructure projects carried out in the western region.
Switching to a cleaner, greener and more efficient energy source, was a natural progression for Frylite which cares about protecting the planet as well as helping its customers with their everyday cooking oil and waste disposal needs, he said.
Mr McCay, who established the business in 1988 to provide waste oil services for the catering and hospitality industry, continued: “We are fully committed to meeting international sustainability and carbon certification requirements and offering our customers the services that help them to do so”.
“As we celebrate 30 years in business this year, we are confident that the decision to convert our waste oil processing facility to natural gas will meet our growing business energy needs while strengthening our competitive edge for customers”.
“We welcome this major new energy infrastructure investment in Strabane which will help local companies reduce their carbon footprint and accelerate business growth in increasingly competitive global markets,” he added.
Jamie Cunningham, Key Account Manager with SGN Natural Gas, said they were delighted to connect Frylite to the new multimillion pound mains gas network coinciding with the Strabane company’s milestone 30th anniversary.
He added: “Frylite joins a growing band of leading local manufacturing companies and commercial users putting their faith in the benefits of natural gas as the best way to power their businesses now and in the future, secure in the knowledge that it is the most energy efficient and cost-effective fuel source to meet their customer requirements.”
As well as Frylite’s headquarters based in the Orchard Road Industrial Estate in Strabane, the company also operates depots in Dublin, Galway and Cork, employing a workforce totalling over 250 people. Its clients include KFC, Hilton Hotels, Burger King and TGI Fridays.
More than 1,300 homes and businesses in Strabane now have access to natural gas with £15m invested to date in new infrastructure in the Co Tyrone town.
Frylite’s conversion to natural gas follows McColgan’s Quality Foods recently while several other large commercial users are scheduled to connect to the new mains gas network in the coming weeks.
