Lane closure in Enniskillen announced as network expands

Key works will be taking place in Enniskillen during a traditionally quieter period for most as SGN Natural Gas expands its network, providing more access to the most environmentally friendly of the commonly used heating fuels.

 

As a result, a lane closure will be in operation along Sligo Road with portable traffic signals from 18th July until the end of August. There will also be an alternative route signposted for Enniskillen-bound traffic via Ashwoods Road, Drummee Road, Derrygonnelly Road and Loughshore Road. However, access will be maintained for emergency services at all times during the lane closure.

 

SGN Natural Gas has notified local residents and businesses who may be affected by the works, which have been approved by DfI Roads and will be carried out by Kier.

 

These dates have been carefully selected to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. Following discussions with DfI Roads, it was agreed that this was the best time to work on this road as there is a notable reduction in rush hour traffic volumes during the school holidays, and a permit has been granted to work continuously to ensure this is completed before schools resume. By undertaking these works during a traditionally quieter period, this will help ensure we are collaborating effectively with our stakeholders, members of the public and our customers.

 

Our infrastructure will ultimately play a key role in decarbonising Northern Ireland, particularly with recent biomethane developments for our network as well as the publication of the Energy Strategy which encourages consumers to switch from oil to natural gas.
