Road Closure at A29 to commence on 16th July
Posted: 02 Jul, 2018
SGN Natural Gas has confirmed that the A29 will be closed from Gortmerron Link Road to the junction at Wellington Road, Dungannon from 16th July for approximately 12 days.
The decision has been taken to close the road at a traditionally quieter time of the year to minimise disruption for commuters using the route and follows a lengthy process of engagement with DFI Roads.
David Butler, Head of Engineering, confirmed the closure and advised residents and commuters to allow extra journey time during the 12-day closure.
Mr. Butler explained: “Whilst we understand members of the public may be disappointed with the decision to close the road we have done so having considered all viable alternative options. A lane closure at this particular piece of the road would not be safe and safety is at the forefront of our construction approach. We also estimate had a lane closure been feasible it would take approximately 6-8 weeks to complete, therefore we would be on this road when the schools return. The option of a full closure for a minimal period of time is the most efficient and practical way to navigate this particular leg of the construction phase.”
Mr Butler continued: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their understanding during the construction phase of this project. We are confident the benefits of natural gas will outweigh the temporary inconvenience to our local residents and businesses.”
SGN Natural Gas emphasised that it was engaging directly with local residents, traders, civic leaders, project partners and other stakeholders on an ongoing basis to ensure they received prior notification of roadworks and estimated timelines for completion.
