Work to commence in July at Dungannon Hospital Roundabout

SGN Natural Gas has confirmed that work will commence in the vicinity of the Hospital Roundabout in Dungannon on 1st July 2019 for approximately four weeks, coinciding with the school holidays.

The decision has been taken to carry out the work at a traditionally quieter time of the year to minimise disruption for motorists using the route and follows ongoing engagement with DFI Roads and other key stakeholders.

David Butler, Head of Engineering with SGN Natural Gas, confirmed that the work would be carried out on a phased basis to help keep any delays to a minimum for people travelling in the vicinity of the Oaks Road and Hospital Roundabout.

He explained that the work to install a gas main was programmed during the summer holidays and also in advance of a DFI Roads’ re-surfacing scheme at the Hospital Roundabout.

Mr Butler continued: “We will be commencing work at Oaks Road, Dungannon from Lurgaboy Lane to the Hospital Roundabout on Monday 1st July. Work will then take place at the Hospital Roundabout which will remain open but requires an inner lane closure using specialist traffic management.”

The next phase of the works will involve a combination of daytime and nighttime individual road/lane closures with diversionary routes approved by DFI Roads in order to install new gas infrastructure in six side roads.

Mr Butler added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their understanding during the distribution phase of this project. We are confident the benefits of natural gas will outweigh the temporary inconvenience to local residents and businesses during the holiday period.”

SGN Natural Gas emphasised that it was engaging directly with local residents, traders, civic leaders, project partners and other key stakeholders on an ongoing basis to ensure they received prior notification of roadworks and estimated timelines for completion.

Information on roadworks will also be available on the ‘Help and advice’ section of the SGN Natural Gas website here
